Sound systems for your diesel or electric loco model. Add realistic engine sounds and Auxiliary sounds like horn, bell etc to an otherwise 'silent' model for a prototypical experience. Designed originally for the garden railway ('G' and 'O' gauge) models, they are equally applicable to ride-on size models of any scale, and being a small physical size are easily fitted and 'hidden'.
Sounds are all real sounds recorded from real locomotives and stored digitally in the sound system, and reproduced giving realistic sounds. Motor sound with 'notches', horn, bell, brake release etc. Electric traction sound version available too. There are various versions available to suit a particular prototype or manufacturer with their various engine sounds, and a variety of different horn types, giving a wide range to suit just about every taste. Just select the model number to suit desired loco type/engine sound and horn type from the available range.
There are many specifications and features available to suit a variety of applications.
Operation is from 6V to 24V supply, ideal for battery powered models. Current consumption is small - insignifcant compared to the traction motors! On-board output power is approx 1W into an 8 ohm speaker, and is sufficient for small locomotives. However, if more power is required, an Auxiliary audio amplifier (11W or 22W output) is avaialble for higher output power. It is recommended that the largest speaker possible in the space available, or multiple speakers, be used to give the best possible results with loudest output and best fidelity.
Other application options include turning off the main engine sound and just using the horn or bell sounds.
Versions also available for steam sounds, although predominantly intended for the garden railway sized locomotives, can be used on a live steam loco to provide a realistic multi-chime whistle or compressor sounds only with the main 'choof-choof' sound disabled.

Details of typical connections for ride-on locomotives can be found in this Application Note. A general Application Note covering various installation situations is also available here [PDF].
All sound modules are designed to operate into a speaker of 8Ω (8 ohms) impedance. Operation into other impedance loads may cause damage. For speakers of other impedances, or connections for multiple speakers, click here for details.
