The Chinese have installed the world's first commercial high-speed magnetic levitation transportation system from the new international airport at Pudong in Shanghai to the city area. It presently stops at Longyang Rd, a km or 2 from the commercial centre of Shanghai, but there are plans to extend the system under the river to the city centre, and on to the other domestic airport at Hongqiao. It is in regular public passenger commercial service and operates at speeds greater than 430 km/h. [A photo gallery of the system]
